← The three ways to use DataTug with AI

Skills plugin

Give your coding agent DataTug skills.

The plugin teaches a coding agent how to use the datatug CLI. Add the marketplace once, install the plugin, then ask in plain words.

Skills plugin for coding agentsAvailable

First, the CLI. The skills run it.

Every skill calls the datatug CLI, so it has to be installed and on your PATH before the skills can do anything.

How to install the CLI

Check that it is there:

datatug --help

Install the plugin in Claude Code.

Run these two commands inside Claude Code. Nothing else to configure.

  1. Add the marketplace

Once per machine. It tells Claude Code where DataTug's plugin lives.

    /plugin marketplace add sneat-co/ai-marketplace
  2. Install the plugin

The DataTug skills are then available in any Claude Code session.

    /plugin install datatug@sneat-co
  3. Check that it works

    Ask your agent:

    List my DataTug projects.

It uses the projects skill to list the DataTug projects registered on this machine. An empty list only means none are registered yet.

No CLI yet? Run /datatug:datatug-install in Claude Code. It shows how to install the CLI for your system and never runs the installer itself.

Which agents it works with.

Claude Code today. The others are not ready.

  • Claude CodeAvailable

Install it with the two commands above.

  • CodexPlanned

Not installable from this marketplace yet. The plugin repository has a Codex manifest that has not been tested, and the marketplace's Codex catalog does not list DataTug.

  • CursorPlanned

Not installable from this marketplace yet. The plugin repository has a manifest Cursor can read, which has not been tested in Cursor.

What your agent can do with it.

One skill for each part of the CLI the plugin covers. Each says whether it works today: the skills are only as ready as the CLI commands behind them.

  • /datatug:datatug-installAvailable

Shows how to install the datatug CLI when it is missing. It never runs the installer.

  • /datatug:datatug-initAvailable

Creates a new DataTug project in a folder you choose.

  • /datatug:datatug-projectsAvailable

Lists the DataTug projects registered on this machine, and registers one you already have.

  • /datatug:datatug-scanAvailable

Reads a database's structure (tables, columns, keys) into a project, so the schema can be versioned.

  • /datatug:datatug-validateAvailable

Checks that a project is well-formed, before you commit or in CI.

  • /datatug:datatug-serveAvailable

Starts the local DataTug server that the web app connects to.

  • /datatug:datatug-datasetsIn development

Lists a project's datasets, shows a dataset's definition and prints its rows.

The CLI commands behind it cannot be told which project to use yet, so they stop with an error. Do not rely on it.

  • /datatug:datatug-queriesIn development

Lists and runs a project's saved queries.

datatug queries is not implemented in the CLI yet. Saved queries run today with datatug query run, which no skill covers.

  • /datatug:datatug-query-builderPlanned

Builds a read-only query with you in conversation, while the query shows live in the DataTug web app.

It drives an MCP endpoint of datatug serve. The skill is written; the server it talks to is not built yet. Depends on: MCP server.
